Continuing a Legacy of Service: Supporting Local Veterans Through SYNERGY HomeCare

By Jo Beltran, SYNERGY HomeCare of Eagan

Service to our country is not just a job, it’s a calling, a legacy, and the thread that has woven through every part of my life.

After more than two decades in the U.S. Army, I’ve learned that leadership is about more than rank or title; it’s about compassion, accountability, and showing up for those who depend on you. My time in uniform has taught me discipline and purpose. But most importantly, it has taught me that service doesn’t stop when you are out of uniform; it takes on a new form.

That belief is what drives my wife, Bri Beltran, my partner in both life and business, and a proud Army Veteran herself, to run our HomeCare business as the CEO. Together, we carry that spirit of service into our work with SYNERGY HomeCare of Eagan, a business built around care, compassion, and community through acts of service.

From Soldier to Servant Leader

At 17, I made a decision that changed the course of my life. I joined the U.S. Army Reserves. That choice gave me purpose, a career, and one of my proudest milestones: becoming a U.S. citizen.

My service took me to Iraq and many places around the world, but it also meant time away from my family. By the time my son was five, I had missed nearly half of his life due to deployments. That realization reshaped how I viewed leadership and service. I learned that true service means not only protecting your country but also being present for the people who matter most.

Today, that lesson guides everything I do, whether I’m mentoring younger soldiers, assisting Bri in supporting our team of caregivers, or helping families find peace of mind. We live by one simple rule: Be the leader you’d want to follow.

Why We Chose SYNERGY HomeCare

When Bri and I began thinking about our next chapter, we knew we wanted to continue serving others, especially Veterans and their families. Bri had been working in HomeCare for 14 years, and I had been present to see her experiences and to hear her ideas for how she would do it better. SYNERGY HomeCare gave us that opportunity.

SYNERGY HomeCare is a business with heart, founded on compassion, trust, and the belief that everyone deserves to live life on their own terms. My background in psychological operations (the Army’s version of communications and strategy) has given me a unique perspective. In the military, we didn’t sell products; we inspired belief in ideas. I carried that same mindset into our business today, striving to inspire hope, trust, and confidence in every family we serve. Bri pulled from my experiences to build our marketing plan and to establish a better way to build care plans for our clients.

Some of my most meaningful moments are the simplest ones, sitting with an older Veteran, listening to their stories, and saying thank you. Those conversations remind me exactly why we do what we do.

How We Serve Local Veterans and Their Families

There are more than 146,000 Veterans in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area, over half of them are age 65 or older. Many face new health challenges and need extra support at home. That’s where our mission begins.

Caring for another human being is one of the most rewarding but demanding things you can do. It’s not something anyone should have to do alone. It also demands a higher level of training, which we are happy to provide to our caregivers.

At SYNERGY HomeCare, we proudly stand beside Veterans and their families. Many locations, including ours, partner with the Department of Veterans Affairs to help Veterans access their home care benefits with ease.

Every Veteran we serve has a story, and every family caregiver deserves support. Our mission is to meet them where they are, with dignity, compassion, and respect. Veterans have given so much to our nation. They deserve care that honors that sacrifice, care that helps them live safely, independently, and with pride. As Veterans, we are happy to bring our experience to help us bring an additional level of understanding to that Client’s story and what they may have been through prior to needing homecare.

A New Way to Serve

For Bri and me, SYNERGY HomeCare is more than a business; it’s our next mission. It’s the continuation of a lifetime of service, a way to empower caregivers, uplift families, and make a lasting impact in our community. It is our way of thanking Veterans for their service and giving a little something back to them.

If you are someone driven by purpose —someone who wants to give back, uplift others, and make a difference —SYNERGY HomeCare offers a path to do exactly that.
Because when service is part of who you are, it never ends; it evolves.
